Instead of rigid phrasing, users can now describe desired settings with greater flexibility – for example, requesting lighting “the color of the ocean” and having Gemini accurately translate this into a specific hue. Similarly, appliance control is becoming more precise; you can now instruct Gemini to “preheat the smart oven to 350 degrees” without needing exact technical terms.
Google has also refined Gemini’s device recognition, enabling it to differentiate between similar items (like a “lamp” versus a “light”) for faster, more accurate responses. This is a crucial step forward, as inconsistent device naming often causes frustration for smart home users.
Expanded Accessibility and Interactive Summaries
The update expands access to Gemini for Home to children with supervised Google accounts, broadening the user base. Simultaneously, Google is enhancing Gemini Live, a conversational feature that provides real-time information. News summaries delivered through Gemini Live are now more in-depth and interactive, allowing users to ask follow-up questions and receive detailed briefings on demand.
This follows earlier updates this month, including the introduction of “Live Search” for security cameras and broader contextual understanding.
