Rivian drops R2 deliveries

8

June 9 is the date.

That is when the first Rivian R2s hit driveways. No more waiting in the shadows.

The company spent recent months cranking the dial. Pushing hard. The goal is clear. The R1s are for enthusiasts with deep pockets. This thing? This is for the rest of us. Or at least more of us. It starts just shy of $60,000. Cheap enough to hurt a little, cheap enough to sell.

They want volume.

A vehicle that aims bigger than its predecessors always faces higher scrutiny.

Rivian isn’t stopping there either. They are teasing a “standard” cut. $48,495 starting price. Coming in 2027 if all goes according to plan. That sounds like a headline writer’s dream number. Clean. Accessible.

Then there’s the rumor mill.

Remember that $45,000 promise from the 2024 reveal? It’s still dangling there. Late next year. Maybe. Maybe not. It feels like bait at this point. A shiny object to keep folks looking at the booth.

Why keep promising the bottom dollar?

Because hope is free. And margins are not.

So we wait. The $60k version lands next month. The rest? Just whispers right now. Let’s see if the factory actually breathes this dream into metal. Or if it’s just another render we’ll scroll past.
