SunBooster: New Device Aims to Bring Sunlight Benefits Indoors

23

A new device called the SunBooster is attempting to address the energy drain and mood slump experienced by those who spend hours indoors each day. Developed by Amsterdam-based SunLED Life Science, this product was showcased at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, and is now rolling out across Europe and the United States.

How It Works

The SunBooster is a compact, webcam-like gadget that attaches to computer monitors via USB-C. Instead of capturing images, it emits near-infrared light, a type of light believed to stimulate cellular energy production and improve mood. The concept is simple: deliver some of the benefits of natural sunlight directly to people working indoors.

Why This Matters

This device targets a growing problem: modern work patterns often keep people indoors for extended periods, depriving them of natural light. Lack of sunlight can contribute to fatigue, lower productivity, and even seasonal affective disorder. While the effectiveness of the SunBooster hasn’t been independently verified, the need for such solutions is clear. The company claims the device can help those who don’t have time for sunlight breaks or live in regions with limited daylight.

The timing is also relevant. The rise of remote work and long-hour office cultures means more people are spending more time indoors than ever before. This trend has led to increased interest in biohacking tools, including light therapy devices, to optimize well-being.

Availability and Pricing

The SunBooster is currently available in the Netherlands. The product will launch in Nordic countries in March, the US in April (priced at $249), and the UK, France, and Germany in the coming months.

Despite the convenience, it’s worth noting that no device can fully replicate the benefits of spending time outdoors. But for those consistently stuck behind screens, the SunBooster could be a way to supplement their indoor lifestyle with some of the wellness benefits of sunlight.
